Choosing the right boot - The right size
When you go to buy a ski boot you should first ask for the same size as in your street shoes.
When you put on ski socks, and you put on both boots and tighten them to the minimum, stand upright. This way you should feel the toe of the boot and, in flexion, the foot should touch the back of the boot and should not feel the toe.
Also, when trying to lift the heel you should be unable to do so, because when skiing we go so far forward that if we do not hold the heel well we lose stability and transmission to the ski.
You should check that there are no compression points and that when you are in flexion there is approximately 1 cm between the boot and the calf.
Tips for choosing the best boot according to your level:
- BEGINNER. Comfort (comfortable inner volume), flexible/soft shell, with a low flex index: no more than 60
- MEDIUM. Best comfort/precision ratio, stiffer shell (self-molding and self-forming), with adjustments to customize your boot (millimetric hooks, spoilers...). Flexion index between 60 and 90
- ADVANCED. Close-fitting boot, hard shell and with adjustments to customize your boot (millimetric hooks, spoilers...). High flex index, between 90 and 120.
