Savage Axis XP Compact Bolt Action Rifle with Scope
The Savage Axis is a very economical rifle that is perfect for entry level hunting or as a backup rifle for experienced users. It features great accuracy and reliability in the entry level range. Due to the weight reduction it has been designed for, it integrates a traditional trigger system. The safety has two positions after the action.
The stock is made of durable black polymer, with cutouts and textured areas on the pistol grip and handguard to ensure grip with wet hands. In the case of the pistol grip, it also adopts a small stop at the base of the stock, allowing for a firm and comfortable grip. The design of the grooves in the butt pad, which has a soft, ventilated padding, creates a rigid intermediate area and a soft exterior.
The magazine is made of polymer and metal and is fully removable, with a capacity of 4 rounds. It is recessed in the belly of the stock, without protruding from it. The stock integrates two rotating ring-holder bolts for attaching a rifle belt.
The stock is the traditional one used by Savage, robust and rounded. It is machined from a round bar and has a wide ejection window to provide very good ridigity without hindering the feeding and ejection of percussion cases. In addition, compared to other open top designs, it prevents dirt from entering the action.
It has a very smooth operation thanks to its floating-head bolt. This ensures that it can self-center during locking, resting evenly in the hollow of the action and making the bolt face have full contact with the entire cartridge head.
The barrel ranges from 508mm to 559mm and has a sporting contour in all calibers for sale. As the "SR" (Suppressor Ready) designation indicates, it ends in a 14x1 thread pitch. It is fIt is made of carbon steel with rifling following the button rifling technique, of which this manufacturer is a specialist, a fact that results in its very high precision. The nut-locking system between the barrel and the action allows an exact headspace to be established.
The difference with the AXIS version is that the AXIS XP family comes standard with a 3-9x40 mm Weaver mounted and set up at the factory. This is a lightweight (326 g), economical, second focal plane scope with 1 snorkel and ¼ MOA adjustments, which features tremendous ruggedness.

When the word Rifle is used, anyone, including a non-expert, evokes a classic Mauser bolt-action rifle of military type. We could say that it is the current rifle par excellence, it is the most used in any hunting modality, the most universal for its variety of calibers, weights, sizes, finishes, applications, manufacturers and prices.
It is a repeating rifle, that is to say a rifle that allows repeating the shot whose action consists of a bolt that, manually operated by a rotation and thrust movement, captures the cartridge from the magazine and introduces it into the chamber "locking it" (closing it), arms the punch or needle, to subsequently allow the shot to be fired.
The mechanism of the bolt can be variable, currently there are bolts with axial action without apparent rotation. The ammunition magazine admits a variable number of cartridges, usually 5 for non-Magnum calibers and 3 or 4 for the latter. Some models allow the use of a detachable magazine.
Repetition should never be confused with automatism.
They are the most accurate rifles and the simplest to build.
In some models, barrels of different caliber can be interchanged, in which case the long action group (Magnum calibers) and the short action group (Magnum calibers) are compatible.
Advantages
- It is the most robust and reliable of all
- High ballistic accuracy (unmatched by other repeating systems)
- The extraction and reloading mechanisms provide total operational safety
- It is slow firing, making it difficult to shoot quickly and fluently
- It is too large for long days of hunting on foot
- The manual action of the bolt unholsters the weapon at each shot, which forces the hunter to retake the aiming elements and means a loss of time that can be crucial in the second shot
- BIG HUNTING RIFLE
