Leupold VX 5HD 2-10x42 Riflescope

The Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 is possibly one of Leupold's most versatilerifle scopes, since with a minimum magnification range of 2x, it provides a wide field of view to facilitate the location of prey, while at 10x, there is enough magnification for the most distant shots, a situation that can occur in the stalking mode.

This scope is distinguished by the use of excellent quality lenses, with the High Definition (HD) feature. It has the Twilight Max Light Management System technology, an aspect that offers the hunter an advantage in the hours of greatest activity of certain prey, especially at dawn and dusk. For example, in the case of roe deer, it is well known that these are the twilight hours, when there are the greatest opportunities to shoot. At these times, light conditions are precarious, and only quality lenses, such as the VX-5HD, are capable of providing sharp, crisp and bright images. The manufacturer claims that this scope provides 30 minutes more hunting time at dusk and dawn compared to other competitive optics.

At its highest magnifications it lacks any optical aberration or edge distortion, with a sharp image from side to side. As is characteristic of this brand of riflescopes, the number of lenses is smaller than in other brands and the arrangement of the lenses is taken into account to determine the treatments applied to each lens. The result is a clarity and image quality, difficult.

An important aspect is its mechanical quality, that is, if we adjust the reticle a series of MOAs, through the turrets, this correction is reflected exactly at the point of impact. The low profile turrets, are graduated in ¼ of MOA per click, this means a correction of 7 mm for each one of them at 100 m. The drift turret has a protective cap, something to be thankful for, as it is always the most exposed to unintentional changes, due to friction and fortuitous hits. The side parallax turret is also very easy to use.

The turrets are large enough to be used by people with normal sized hands, but not so large that they get in the way.

This scope has the familiar ZeroLock (CDS-ZL2) custom dial system. This includes a custom screen-printed turret collar, according to the cartridge specifications provided by the purchaser on a standardized form. In this way, knowing the distance, it will only be necessary to mark it on the turret. Additional dials can be ordered at an additional cost.

It has a generous eye relief and eyebox, a feature that makes it easy to find a comfortable shooting position quickly. In addition, the integrity of the shooter's eye, in particularly powerful calibers such as magnums, is guaranteed.

It is a particularly robust rifle scope, built in a 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum body. The VX-5HD is waterproof and fog resistant, and also has the Guard-Ion lens coating, the latter treatment consists of an "ion bombardment to the molecular structure of the lens". Resulting in an outer lens that repels water, dirt and fingerprints very well.

The FireDot Duplex illuminated second focal plane reticle model, which is especially popular because it has a red dot in the center of the crosshair and is designed to aid aiming in extremely low light conditions. For example, this reticle is ideal for shooting a very dark colored fur-bearing animal when lighting is low, a circumstance where it can be very difficult to find the point of aim.

11. *Leupold MST technology to conserve battery life. Tilting the VX-5HD more than one degree to the left or right causes the illuminated reticle to flash. Remove the tilt and it stops flashing. Tilt it more than 30 degrees and it will turn off to conserve battery life.
12. Low profile turret, with a maximum of two full rotations, allowing a maximum elevation of 38 MOAs. Lock button remains in view during the first rotation and is hidden during the second. The CDS-ZL2 (Custom Dial System ZeroLock2) for the height turret is easily operated to quickly set positions by simply pressing the lock button while making the turn. In addition, the system allows easy zeroing and thus return to the starting position very quickly.
