How do you choose your skis and bindings?
Basic specifications you should know when choosing your skis.<
- Sidecut:
This is determined by the width of the ski at three points: the tip, the waist, and the tail.- TAIL - The narrower the tail, the smoother and more progressive the turns will be (more skidding); the wider it is, the sharper and tighter the turns will be.
- SIDING – The wider it is, the more stability it offers; if it is narrow, it allows for faster edge changes.
- SPAN - The wider it is, the easier it is to initiate a turn.
- Turn radius:
This is the natural curve of the ski and is determined by its dimensions. The larger the radius, the more the ski is suited for wider turns. The smaller the radius, the more suited the ski is for tighter turns.
- Recreational Level: Comfort, flexibility, and lightness. The ski length should be 20 to 5 cm shorter than the skier’s height.
- Sport Level: Responsive skis with good grip, very stable, and excellent glide. The ski length relative to the skier’s height should be between –20 and +5 cm, and between –20 and –10 cm for slalom.
- High Level: Precision, power, and great momentum. The ski length relative to the skier’s height should be from –10 to +10 cm. (giant slalom)
- Freerider: Maneuverability and excellent grip. The ski length relative to the skier’s height should be between –5 and +5 cm.
When the season ends, never store your skis leaning against each other, as doing so will cause them to lose the curve of the waist. You should store them loosely, both horizontally and vertically, and apply petroleum jelly to the edges to prevent rust.
