Choosing the Funding Line
A good anchoring is the best insurance policy that can exist and, undoubtedly, the basic element of this correct anchoring is none other than the anchor.
Likewise, we cannot overlook the importance of each of the elements that make up the anchoring line; this includes:
- The chain: it must have a minimum length equal to 5 times the length of the boat and a sufficient diameter
- The rope: we will opt for the polyamide rope, which is highly resistant to breakage and abrasion and at the same time has great elasticity, so it serves as a shock absorber
It is advisable to have a minimum of two anchoring points: a main one at the bow (for emergency anchoring) and a secondary one (in an easily accessible locker). It is advisable to have two different widths.
It is also advisable to have a third anchorage for "recreational" anchorages.
When anchoring we must take into account the depth, as well as the strength of the wind, in order to determine the length of the anchoring line, as follows:
- Less than 10 m:
- 3 times the depth up to force 3
- 5 times the depth up to force 6
- 7 times the depth up to force 9
- More than 10 m: limit to 5 times the depth
